Patrice and I returned from the League Learning College Summit in Phoenix, AZ on Wednesday eve. We continue to learn more about what it means for a college to be truly learning-centered not just learner or student-centered—-reflect on that for awhile!! In our League presentation, we told our story of the past 8 years working in the Teaching and Learning Center and the growth towards Organizational Learning at ICC. That growth included our II and LR Department expansion to include all of the vital areas (TLC, Instructional Services, Library/AV/LRC, Telecommunications and Media, and Learning Labs) of teaching and learning support at ICC! You have all played a BIG PART in the growth to Organizational Learning at ICC as we reflected on our evolution to prepare for our presentation! The “Lessons Learned” article by Kay McClenney (first pdf attachment) laid the foundation for our presentation and I wanted to share that with all of you (some who have attended a Learning College Summit before)! We then shared where ICC is on the journey and the League participants shared where they were as well as using playing cards to get all involved (second word attached handout). Our PowerPoint presentation is attached (as a pdf handout) that outlines the presentation FYI, if interested. We had a great discussion but more importantly we reflected upon where ICC is on the journey to being truly learning-centered!
I hope you enjoy viewing the handouts—-please especially print and/or read the “Lessons Learned” article (3 pages)! It describes ICC fairly accurately and we were affirmed that we are on the right journey—not necessarily an easy journey and sometimes we have taken a few extra turns—but we are making progress and need to be persistent, just as we encourage and expect our students to be persistent in the journey of lifelong learning! Enjoy the article and thanks to all of you for your persistence in helping our faculty, staff and students learn! JK
